Lift ventilation – Safety is our priority
Traditionally, lift shafts are ventilated through an opening situated at their upper end. For lifts that aren't connected to a ventilation zone, depending on the case, the necessary ventilation is produced through two openings in the surrounding stairwell, which are situated at the upper and lower end of the shaft.
However, caution is required - all norms and standards are clear on the following point: A sufficient ventilation has to be guaranteed especially in danger situations. The decision for the ventilation type, as well as the responsibility for that choice later on, lies with the project manager.
The fundamentals of physics, our esperience, a healthy dose of common sense and all our measurement results confirm that a sufficient ventilation can only barely happen in a situation where the lift cabin stays still with openings into the surrounding stairwell. The lift shaft and the aforementioned surrounding stairwell become one uniform, enclosed air space where temperature and pressure counterbalance each other automatically. Where the necessary air flow is supposed to come from with an idle Cabin, lacking air quality, etc., cannot be argumented.
